Another day…another atheist…

Posted by joelbyer on May 30, 2009

OK, as some of you know, a while back I got into a debate with some atheists. It was never my intention to taunt or be inflammatory, but I DO like to think and discuss issues.

The following is a 20 point list in which a person gives for giving up his faith. He now feels “relief”… (Incidentally, many people who leave the CHM also use this or similar terms…which thus shows that that feeling is not in and of itself proof of a right decision.)

I don’t recommend this link for new Christians or young people. Also, I did not read the comments, so I don’t know about the language used. However, as mature Christians we should have answers to the big objections raised against our faith.

I would love to respond more indepth…point by point…and maybe I will some time, but for now, my overall response to all of this would be something like this. This person is attempting to define God by his narrow-minded definitions as shaped by pop culture. Since the Christian God of Biblical orthodoxy doesn’t fit today’s views of what God should be…he thus rejects God.

I almost hesitate to ask, but anyone who wishes to comment, may do so, so long as the language is clean and the tone respectful. Thanks in advance!

Panera Bread

Posted by joelbyer on May 29, 2009

…tis the place I’m at right now in Cincinnati. I have only sampled their coffee…it’s not bad. The bread is as of yet untested. The staff is very friendly and helpful though. If this were a church, I would think about attending.
I’m accessing the wireless internet…thinking profound sermon thoughts 😉 …and catching up on e-mail.

By the way, yesterday our family went to the Creation Museum, just south of Cincinnati. Great place!

Anyhoo. Just so  you know.

Ezra turns 20!

Posted by joelbyer on May 17, 2009

OK, this is kind of scary. My baby brother turned 20 today. He is very proud of the fact that he is the only one of the family born in Quebec. (This picture was taken last year.)

Political thought of the day…

Posted by joelbyer on May 17, 2009

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — President Obama directly confronted America’s deep divide over abortion on Sunday as he appealed to partisans on both sides to find ways to respect one another’s basic decency and even work together to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies.

OK, I get it. In the above quote from the NY Times, Obama wants to act like he is “above it all”, and only interested in bipartisanship. But if abortions are fine, why would anyone want to reduce the number of them? Despite the NY Times, liberal politicians and others denials, abortion is still not – nor ever will be – a purely amoral medical procedure.

It’s still murder. It is still a deeply abhorrent moral stain on Western Civilization.
Here is another quote…

“Maybe we won’t agree on abortion,” he told 2,900 graduating seniors, their relatives and professors, “but we can still agree that this is a heart-wrenching decision for any women to make, with both moral and spiritual dimensions.

Again, why the “heart-wrenching decision” with “moral and spiritual dimensions”? Does anyone talk like this after getting their appendix removed? It’s time to face the truth, and call abortion for what it really is…the selfish murder of innocent life.

Feeling like being funny? not right now…not for this blog…

Posted by joelbyer on May 13, 2009

Well folks, no more dramatic updates for now, but I do continue to sense God’s peace and presence about this whole big transition in our lives right now.

And I promise you this.

Once, we get things figured out, and the U-haul packed and unpacked, and get settled in to um…wherever, I’ll go back to posting strange, irrelevant news. 🙂

I think, though, that I will try to do a higher percentage of substantive content then my previous 2.4%. (See left side column for that.)
