Web site news…

Posted by joelbyer on January 30, 2008

1) I just updated our church web site. It’s http://www.dawnvalley.com. I also have a church blog that I run off that site. We have a number of Valentine’s events coming up including an adult taco/banana split festivity whereby people contribute various ingredients.

2) Jon Plank recently posted our new Bible Methodist denominational site! It’s http://www.biblemethodist.org He did a great job with it, although of course, Bible Methodism is a pretty quality lot of people and churches to work with in the first place. 🙂

3) (dramatic drum roll please) Our church is featured on the cover of this month’s Bible Methodist magazine. Click here for my previous post on the choice of the 2 pictures (the bottom one was used with some minor editing, I think). OK, that’s not exactly web news, but this is my blog and I’m allowed to be inconsistent whenever I want.

4) Looks like McCain is building momentum to be the Republican nominee…probably a good idea.

5) Looks like my new blog template is kinda weird…cool!

6) Looks like I’ve run out of ideas to post on this list.

News You can Use

Posted by joelbyer on January 26, 2008

This is really cool news of the day. Apparently, Lithuania is considering changing its name because it’s too unfamiliar with English tourists.
Marketing Lithuania: How about name change? – msnbc.com

Here are some ideas that come to mind.
Coca-cola (what advertising revenue this would generate!)

Oz – Short, too the point, and would obviously be attractive to English-speaking people named Dorothy.

United States – this could potentially solve or greatly reduce the problem of illegal immigration due to many border crossers winding up there by mistake (“hey, you just said to drive you to United States, you didn’t specify which one”)

Screaming Fireball – while admittedly a little unorthodox, according to this article, a commission led by the prime minister approved a marketing concept that says the country should “promote itself as daring”. It would also be extremely cool…er hot…to be known as a native Fireballian.
Certainly, whenever I think of Lithuania, tears come to my eyes immediately as I think about many heroic exploits Lithuanians have done over the centuries.

Think about it. Would YOU even be here today if it weren’t for Lithuania? See? I thought so.

Any other suggestions?
Maybe we should rename Canada while we’re at it.

We’re sorry

Posted by joelbyer on January 25, 2008

Yes, very sorry. We are currently kicking and flailing at ourselves. We are even forgoing our desserts after our meals, because we feel so awful. We’ll try our very best not to let it happen again. Hey, even though it was 7.2 billion, it’s just money, right? Our relationship with YOU as a customer is far more important than just materialism. So please…please…come back to us!

Anyway, I wonder how I would apologize if I ran a bank that got bilked out of a few billion.
Hey, I guess it would be no big deal.

Blog blahs

Posted by joelbyer on January 24, 2008

This post officially announces that I have nothing new or profound to post.

I just didn’t feel like having the Republican political post stay at the top of my blog for 1.5 gazillion days.

And speaking of…I just want to remind everyone that when it comes to politics or any other views, these issues are strictly my personal opinion and do NOT represent any church or organization.

The Republicans are in bad shape

Sure seems that way…

If one is honest.

And crunches the numbers.
