Penn View

Posted by joelbyer on July 30, 2007

So I’m sitting here on Penn View campus (at my mother-in-law’s, may she live for ever), and I really should be taking a shower because I’ve been playing volleyball and basketball with the young people this afternoon, but instead I sit here blogging. Never let it be said that I’m a man with mixed-up priorities. This may be true, but never let it be SAID.

Seriously, I appreciate all those who have been praying for me as I speak to the young people. I want to do my best for His glory! Anyway, I’m having  a blast!

BBB Update

Posted by joelbyer on July 28, 2007

Update: Thanks to all the legions of fans who lovingly expressed their concern about my “10:30PM” typo.

Well folks, guilt does not even begin to describe the way I feel. I am so ashamed at letting YOU, my faithful BBB reader down by not blogging that I hereby promise to go outside right after this post and crawl on 5 miles of broken glass.

On second thought ;-), I’ll give you an update instead. We’re getting ready to go to Penn Creek camp just after morning service tomorrow afternoon. I will be speaking to the youth each morning at 10:30 AM. Pray for me! I really want to connect with them in a meaningful way. It will also be an opportunity for me to reconnect with my PVBI friends, and with Jen’s family.

We’ll have a blast!

Let’s see here…in other news.

  1. I have 3 cavities that need filled. (I knew you’d be interested)
  2. I watered the flowers tonight. (The petunias are growing like mad, some of the shrubs we planted, however are dying)
  3. Jeffrey likes pastoral calling. I took him with me this afternoon, and he wanted to keep going after I told him we were headed home!
  4. Monkeys like bananas
  5. I’m preaching again from James at church tomorrow morning. Some truths I’ve been studying have really “reached out and grabbed me”. But…guess you’ll just have to come to church and hear what they are, won’t you? 😉
  6. I love Jesus!
  7. That’s about it.

A real blog post

Posted by joelbyer on July 15, 2007

So folks! How about a real blog post for a change? Anyway, we’re off to Rock Lake Camp tomorrow morning. Camp meeting is awesome! I love being with God’s people in God’s presence, and just spending time focussing on Him.

In a few weeks, our family will be at Penns Creek Camp Meeting where I’ll be the youth speaker there. That will be exciting…but also a real challenge. Pray that I’ll be able to really connect with the young people.

We had a good service at church this morning, even though a number were away for camp and other related issues. God really helped.

Well, tonight I’m starting a Bible Study series working through James, so come join us.

That’s all for now.

Oh yeah. I turn 32 tomorrow. No cards or gifts please. Just cold cash.

Aunt May & Canada Day

Posted by joelbyer on July 1, 2007

Yesterday, our family went to the Byer family reunion. (More pictures to come later!) It was great! I got to see people I haven’t seen for approximately a gazillion years (give or take 🙂 ).

Anyway, it was a great surprise to see Aunt May. Growing up as a boy, I had heard often of my great-uncle Joe Nigh (my father’s mother’s brother).

Joe Nigh – as so many soldiers did during the war – married an English war bride. 6 weeks later, he was a paratrooper for the Canadian Armed forces on D-day.

It was to be his last day on earth.

After the war, Aunt May came to Canada, got re-married, and yesterday, I got to meet her for the very first time.

On this Canada Day we salute you, Aunt May, Uncle Joe,  and so many others who sacrificed greatly so that we might enjoy our freedoms.
