Beaglelessness

Posted by joelbyer on April 30, 2006

We are in a state of beaglenessless. Our beagle Ricky, ran off last night/this morning and we don’t know where he is. He probably went to get a coffee at Tim Horton’s or something.
Our beagle may not be bright, but he is Houdini when it comes to escaping. I know that readers from Pennsylvania, Indianna, Ohio, Florida, Washington, Quebec, Texas, Georigia, Illinois, New York, and Ontario as well as other places read this blog. He’s probably in your backyard right now. Would you please check? YES I MEAN YOU.
As JFK once said, ask not what your beagle can do for you, ask what you can do for your beagle.

Workout regiment

Posted by joelbyer on April 29, 2006

I mentioned a few weeks ago, that I have begun working out. Just so you know, I’m still doing it. (Not that you care, but anyway…)
It’s kind of an interesting work-out.
Stones: First I work out with stones. The idea behind stones is that since they are uneven they work muscles differently than just the barbell. There is the push, dead lift, and squat. For the push, I take various weighted stones, and bring them to my chest, then throw them as far as I can. The dead lift, I simply bend over and pick up stones by straightening up my back. The squat, I take a stone and squat(duh!)…doing 10 or so reps each.
Then, I do wrist exercises, and and lateral work with involves taking dumbells and lifting them up from side to side.
Sit-ups: You know what these are!

Sledgehammer on Tire: Yeah, that sounds strange, doesn’t it? But actually, it’s pretty effective. I take a sledge and simply pound a tire for 10-15 minutes. The tire absorbs shock, and its a pretty good workout involving most of the upper body.
Finger Extensions: Ever squeezed those hand spring thingies? A lot of exercises do the grip muscles, but this one does the muscles that open up the hand. You’d have to see it to understand it.

It’s a fairly extensive work-out, but it’s pretty neat to do it using some common things one would find around the house.
Anyway, I’ll be posting some before and after pictures soon. Not really 🙂 but hopefully it will make a difference!

Is life without Tim Horton’s coffee possible?

Posted by joelbyer on April 27, 2006

Apparently it is. Today I didn’t drink any of Tim’s finest…in fact I didn’t drink any coffee period. And I’m still alive! If I go too long without it, I might have to do what this guy is doing.

For you Americans who don’t know what Tim Horton’s coffee is, let me break this to you as gently as possible.
You’ve had a deprived and underprivileged life.
It’s not your fault that you are the way you are! You can’t help it. Thankfully, there is hope. Just move to Canada and all will be well.
(And here you thought Starbucks was all that.)

Personal Updates

Posted by joelbyer on April 26, 2006

Personal Update #1 – We are entering the “home stretch” in preparing for our church’s 40th anniversary weekend. (See my pastoral blog for further details). We should be fairly busy!
Personal Update #2 – Last week I got a laptop computer! It’s a Dell Inspiron B130 with 1 gig of Ram and 60 gig hard drive with Celeron processor. It’s a fairly lower-end computer, but I’m pleased. I also got the complete Pulpit Commentary Software, and that’s pretty nifty too.
Personal Update #3 – Our family is feeling better again. Jeffrey, Janessa, and Jen were all feeling queasy, etc. with the throwing up thing and all that. If you want to me to provide the gory details…uh, don’t ask. 🙂

How Canada deals with its drug problem

CTV.ca | Vancouver mayor mulls providing drugs to users
This should work; yeah!
Now if we could just decriminalize murder, burglary, rape, and fraud our official crime rate will really be low. Please excuse the sarcasm seeping in between my keyboard.

Bloggers I met at IHC

Posted by joelbyer on April 21, 2006

We’re baaaaaaaaaaaaaaacccccccckkkkk!
Uh, yes.
IHC was well worth the trip. The Lord really helped in the services, and I believe that God helped me to refocus my spiritual vision.
Now, about these pictures below.
I decided to take pictures of various bloggers that I met at IHC. You can check out their blogs by clicking the links on the right of this site.

Update:One other thing…it was pretty interesting at IHC to have people come up and comment about my blog. I am amazed at the wide diversity of people who read this…um…intellectually stimulating blog.
Update 2: I was talking to Bro. Harry Plank briefly, and he was mentioning something to the effect that he and Jim Plank are nervous about talking to Jon now because anything they say might end up on the blog. Maybe he should be nervous about talking to me, because I just put what he said on this blog.
BTW, he did a great job in the Patriotic Service at IHC in telling about his dad. You can read about the details and see Jon Plank’s video by going to his…where else??…blog.

This man on the right, is the esteemed author of Rib’s Radical Blog. He is crazy, as is his blog. He is also my younger brother so that’s why I can get away with saying this. We are trying to look cool and sophisticated here in this picture…I don’t think it’s working.
