Hiking trip

Posted by joelbyer on March 30, 2006

Taking advantage of the weather, I went hiking with a couple of my good friends today. I’d give you their names, but I don’t like name-droppimg. Makes me look like I’m showing off my high-level friends. However, let’s just say that Steve, George, and I are close.

Today was Jeffrey and Janessa’s big day outside! I also used the nice day to take down the Christmas lights. (Please no snarky comments about procrastination or I’ll sue.) Anyway, a good time was had by all. I even wore a pair of coveralls that I’d forgotten I had. As everyone knows, coveralls and Christmas lights make quite a fashion statement.

Computer Lecture #1

Posted by joelbyer on March 27, 2006

Every so often (whenever the mood strikes and I have time), YOU, my faithful BBB reader, will receive pertinent instructions on how to use your computer.
Today’s Lesson:
Not every e-mail is worth forwarding to all your friends.
Repeat after me: “I will not carelessly forward e-mails.”

Good job! I’m so proud of you.
Now class, we will learn why.
Privacy: When you forward your e-mail to a gazillion friends, a gazillion people now have your e-mail!
Manipulation: Never, EVER, send e-mails that manipulate others by warnings, or special “blessings”, or “if you really care about ___ you’ll ___”. This is very vacuum salesmen-like. Some people have VERY big egos, and they like to start e-mails and see how big they’ll get by trying to get 10 people to each send to 10 people who will…you get the idea…don’t fall for it.
Respect: Respect for others e-mail inboxes, respect for other’s time, and just respect in general.

OK, class, great job! Next time we’ll look at outdated terms that computer users should stop using.

And Oh yeah, please forward this blog post to at least 10 people you know because if you don’t, it means that you really don’t love your children.

We’re back!

Posted by joelbyer on March 27, 2006

Did you miss us?
OK probably not, but we had a really good week conducting Spring Revival at Rock Lake Bible Methodist Church. I felt that the Lord really helped me to be able to communicate what was on my heart. It was definitely a growing time for me as I have never conducted a full revival before, but God takes our weakness and uses us in spite of ourselves!
Wow! That was pretty profound, usually about the only thing I can think of to post is a picture of Pepsi-drinking monkey or something. 🙂 Who knows? Maybe this blog will set an even higher standard of excellance than before! (I guess when BBB is already at rock-bottom there’s no way to go but up.)

Revival Report #2

Posted by joelbyer on March 24, 2006

The other night I told the people here in Rock Lake, MI that I have the perfect pastor’s children. The only problem is that this week they are evangelist’s children, so there’s no guarantee as to how they’ll behave. 🙂 Well that night near the end of the service, Jeffrey let Jen know that he needed to go potty. Since the service was just about over, Jen thought he would be able to wait.
He couldn’t.

Anyway! Last night the Lord really helped in the service. I preached from Leviticus 19 on “Holiness Involves Lifestyle”. All too often, people have believed in holiness as a doctrine or theory, but are uncomfortable & unwilling to address God’s claims for holiness on specific issues in their lives. I felt that the Lord really helped the message to get across.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I stand here before you today to simply tell you that I am humbled. Yes deeply humbled that in the year 2006, on the 20th day of March, you, my faithful BBB readers in the nation of blogdom, chose to give this site over 80 hits.”

Revival Report

Posted by joelbyer on March 22, 2006

As I alluded to the other day, I am holding Spring Revival at the Rock Lake Bible Methodist Church. The Lord definitely helped in the service last night. The audience even laughed at some of my jokes! Obviously these people have a very sophisticated sense of humour. (please don’t groan so loudly, it distracts from my typing)
But seriously, we’re enjoying our stay here.
