Typical mainstream media liberal bias and ignorance

Posted by joelbyer on January 31, 2006

Newsweek Society – MSNBC.com
First, read this interesting article, and notice its bias and implication. Scary evangelicals ready to take over the upper eschelons of society! Then notice this correction given at the end of the article.

Correction: In the original version of this report, NEWSWEEK misquoted Falwell as referring to “assault ministry.” In fact, Falwell was referring to “a salt ministry”—a reference to Matthew 5:13, where Jesus says “Ye are the salt of the earth.” We regret the error.

Yeah, makes a little difference.

The whereabouts of Paul Peterson

Posted by joelbyer on January 30, 2006

10 years ago now (wow!), I sang in a quartet from Penn View Bible Institute. We called ourselves the Chapel Singers, and we were wildly famous. 🙂
Anyway, over the years I have drifted out of contact with many of them, but since the spread of the Internet, I’m getting back in touch with many.
Jon Plank, our piano player, now does computer stuff, and runs the coolest blog of all blogs. (He has to, in order to keep up his reputation as a computer genius, you see)
Aaron McCarty, our baritone singer, now pastors the Evangelical Methodist church in Richfield, PA and also has a blog.
Greg Wolfe (or ORY as we used to call him), now lives in Israel, and yes, he also has a not-too-regularly updated blog.
I of course, well, you know what I do!
Then there’s Paul Peterson. I’ve basically lost contact with him, but Google will fund just about anybody nowdays! He is now the senior pastor of the Free Methodist Church of Batavia, New York which recently had 750 in attendance for its new church building.
Update: Oops! I meant to say that Google will find just about anybody, not fund. Although, if you let Google put ads on your blog supposedly you can make money.

Whoa! Easy girl! Careful! You get the idea. Janessa is learning to walk behind this…uh…walk-behind toy thingy. I have no idea what they call them. Anyway, here are a few recent pictures of Jeffrey and Janessa.

If you shake the rattle that is in Jeffrey’s hand, Winnie the Pooh will shake and sing a song! (It’s very cool, trust me)

:: Byer’s Basic Blog :: ‘fesses up

Posted by joelbyer on January 28, 2006

We blew it.
We were way off.
But we don’t deny it or try to cover up the facts.
Way back in late November, our Canadian election began and here were my House of Commons seat predictions for our election:
Liberals – 137
Conservatives – 89
NDP – 19
Block Quebecois – 63

Wow. None of that was even close. Here’s what actually happened.
Liberals – 103
Conservatives – 124
NDP – 29
Block Quebecois – 51
Independant – 1
But hey! As I said, BBB is committed to open honesty.

Mozart’s 250th birthday anniversary!!! I’m so excited!!!! Actually, not reallly!!!! I just like exclamation marks!!!!

Posted by joelbyer on January 27, 2006

Yes, today’s the big day. In honour of Mozart, I plan to spend this day studying for my sermons, calling on parishioners, and practising on my bass guitar…wait a minute, that’s what I do other days…personal memo: must think up something grand.
Anyway, I eagerly anticipate some comment about how important Mozart and classical music have been to the foundations of Western culture, and I also eagerly anticipate gently poking fun at you. 🙂

Mother-in-law update

Posted by joelbyer on January 26, 2006

My mother-in-law (see pic below) had an operation today, and has come through the surgery fine. We are thankful to the Lord that see seems to be doing pretty well.

So…in view of this surgery, AND considering that Valentine’s Day is soon upon us, ::Byer’s Basic Blog:: will abstain from making any mother-in-law jokes for the next month.
It will be difficult, but here at the BBB news room, our editors will keep a tight leash on any wayward reporter who dare make a comment deemed derogatory to mother-in-laws (or is it mothers-in-law??? hmm, more research required).

Meet our new Prime Minister!

Posted by joelbyer on January 23, 2006

Meet our new Prime Minister! Stephen Harper represents a significant change in Canadian politics. He is probably our most conservative Prime Minister…maybe ever! Although he only won a fairly small minority government, hopefully he’ll be able to implement his agenda.
I was also very pleased to see that my own riding, and the 2 others close to it (Sarnia & Chatham) went Conservative! Southwestern Ontario made a key difference this election.
