Happy Birthday, Jen!

Posted by joelbyer on August 30, 2005

Today my wife turned 30. (She wasn’t too thrilled about it.) This morning, she got some cards, candles, and clothing. (Notice my preacher-style alliteration there).

I’m thankful that God has blessed me with a great wife. Yes, I joke around a lot on this blog, but in all seriousness, it’s great to have love and stability in the home in the midst of a very unstable world.

So…Happy Birthday, Sweetheart!

I’ve posted a few “wacky” links recently. Here’s a more serious one. A video and/or audio describing God’s love for us.

Cats and their sinks

Posted by joelbyer on August 26, 2005

Yes, yes, I know. Many of you have been pestering me for quite some time now if I know of a place on the web where there are great pictures of cats sitting in sinks. AREN’T YOU GLAD YOU ASKED! Sorry, didn’t mean to yell.

Anyway, you’ve twisted my arm long enough, so here’s the site…

Delving into Politics: The Iraq War

Posted by joelbyer on August 26, 2005

How ’bout a little politics for a Friday morning, eh? The Iraq War has been dividing a lot of people and it seems that there have been 2 main camps of thought:
1) The war was justified Bush was right to go in anyone who questions this isn’t patriotic God bless America there’s no need for further explanation theory.
2) Bush is a traitor let’s get out before there’s any more loss of life it’s all about Haliburton & oil terrorists can be persuaded to see the unreasonableness of their position theory

So…which camp do I put myself into? I put myself solidly into camp…Three. Here’s the problem I have with the good folk of camp 1. When President Bush was campaigning and persuading the people of the world to support the war in Iraq the MAIN reason given was that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and that if we didn’t do something soon, we would be in trouble.
Now, I am a conservatve, socially, politically, and theologically. But above all, I am committed to truth. And so as much as I like Bush, I feel that he has not adequately accounted for this serious error in intelligence. Please don’t try to tell me that Bush didn’t use the WMD argument that much before the war. Think! Remember! He most definitely did.
But then there’s camp 2. These people are far worse. Most of them just blindly attack Bush and have definite political agendas. “It’s just a war about oil”. This, to me, is such a silly argument. If you’re a conniving politician who wants to increase your power, surely there’s got to be a better way than starting and continuing a war which has cost 200-300 billion plus lost almost a couple of thousand American lives. What a brillian strategy!
So, what do I think about Bush and these 2 camps? Overall on the issues, camp 1 has been 95% right, while camp 2 overall has been 95% wrong. I thinkBush is a great president who has a good heart, but for the sake of a total commmitment to truth, I think that he should be more open and really level with the American people about the mistakes made with pre-war intelligence. It’s all about honestly accounting for that 5%.
Of course the left would have a hay-day, but are we more concerned with a political fall-out or an all-out commitment to truth?
Yet a few(?) thoughts for the day!
